Welcome to the Ceratocystis database

The genus Ceratocystis, which species are perithecial Ascomycetes, includes many plant pathogens in general, but especially as pathogens of fruit and forest trees. The species commonly infect wounds or the cut surfaces of recently felled trees and are responsible for a wide range of disease symptoms including staining of the vascular tissue, cankers and wilting. They are transferred to infection sites by sap-feeding insects and some are associated with specific insect vectors. However, many species are only weakly pathogenic or are saprophytic, causing sap stain on timber.
