 Remarks on sporangia:Hemp and belpepper seeds were incubated on the edge of P. austrocedrae colonies, after two days the seeds were removed and were incubated in sterile filtered pondwater in an incubator set to 9C with the lights switched on. Sporangia formed after approximately four days of incubation. Incubation at higher temperatures, or in darkness failed to produce sporangia in our experiments. Production of sporangia was low, and discharge of zoospores was very rare, the discharge pore width listed in the database was based on a sample of only five empty sporangia, and should only be used as an indication.

Intercalary and basal swellings are very common on sporangiophores. Sympodial branching was not observed.
